Historically, Brazil was not perceived as a priority place to host research pursuing innovation, new molecules and drugs in the pharmaceutical industry. However, this perception has changed recently. Brazil is building a reputation globally as an extraordinary market, since expenses with health are in third place among family expenses (according to Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). Moreover, the Brazilian economy is growing, and the government understands and respects the market rules.
The pharmaceutical industry invests 18.7% of its profits in Research and Development (R&D) for new treatments. On average, a medication takes from 10 to 15 years to be developed, and between 7 to 10 medications do not make the return on investment in R&D.
There are constant new challenges to be faced along with new diseases that arise, which require new treatment processes.
